FIELD: oral hygiene.
SUBSTANCE: following is proposed: the non-therapeutic use of isosorbide to reduce the growth of at least two bacterial strains growing in the oral cavity. The use of isosorbide leads to a marked reduction in the growth of undesirable bacterial strains, in particular Streptococcus mutans, Lactobacillus gasseri, Actinomyces naeslundii and Actinomyces oris. However, isosorbide has a level of effectiveness that is even higher than that observed for xylitol or sorbitol, which are the polyols most commonly used in commercial toothpastes.
EFFECT: using diangydrohexite in oral and dental care to reduce the development of bacterial strains.
