SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an oral care composition and a method for use thereof. Disclosed oral care composition contains an effective amount of saccharide prebiotic for selective stimulation of growth, metabolic activity or colonization of bacteria, beneficial effect on health of oral cavity, selected from a group consisting of Streptococcus mitis, Streptococcus salivarius, Streptococcus sanguinis, Actinomyces viscosus, Veillonella parvula, Streptococcus gordonii, Actinomyces naeslundii, preferable to growth, metabolic activity or colonization of pathogenic bacteria of oral cavity, wherein saccharide prebiotic is N-acetyl-D-mannosamine taken in amount of 0.1–5 wt% of total weight of composition. What is also presented is a method for selective stimulation in the oral cavity of a growth subject, metabolic activity or formation of bacterial colonies which favorably affect the health of the oral cavity, in relation to growth, metabolic activity or formation of colonies of pathogenic bacteria of the oral cavity, including administering the above composition into the oral cavity.

EFFECT: use of the group of inventions promotes increase of quantity of useful bacteria of an oral cavity and reduction of quantity of harmful bacteria of an oral cavity.
