SUBSTANCE: proposed group of inventions is related to a device for generating an aerosol and a method for controlling such a device. The aerosol-generating device comprises a heating element configured to heat the aerosol-generating material, a battery configured to supply energy to the heating element and receive energy from an external device, an output unit, and a processor configured to control the output unit to output a notification about the suitability of the device for generating an aerosol for use, within a specified period of time after stopping the supply of energy from the battery to the heating element or for a specified period of time after charging the battery to a specified level. A method for controlling the generating device comprises determining a first time at which the supply of energy from the battery to the heating element is stopped, or a second time at which the battery is charged to a predetermined level, and outputting a notification about the suitability of the aerosol-generating device for use for a predetermined period of time after the first point in time or the second point in time.
