FIELD: experimental mechanics.
SUBSTANCE: invention concerns a method for determining non-uniform residual stress fields in flat parts. The method consists of installing the sample under study into the circuit of an optical spectrum interferometer and recording the initial state of the spectrum structure on its surface using a high-resolution digital video camera. Then a narrow cut in form of a crack is created in the sample, after which a second registration of the spectrum structure of its deformed surface is made and the resulting pattern of interference fringes is visualized by numerical subtraction of the two registered digitized spectrum structures. Next, the fields of displacement increments are determined, from which the components of residual stresses that took place on the edges of the cut-crack are calculated by mathematically processing the fields of displacement increments using a solution to the problem of elasticity theory about the stress-strain state in a plate of unlimited dimensions with an internal crack, to the edges of which arbitrary normal and tangential stresses are applied, the parameters of which are calculated based on the main vector of forces and moment applied to the arc ΔG of the crack contour.
EFFECT: reduction of the volume of experiments while maintaining high accuracy.
