FIELD: powder metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: method for producing clad steel powder. Can be used to produce powders for additive technologies and hot pressing. Steel powder is mixed with chromium and iodine and loaded into the reactor. Chemo-thermal coating is carried out using iodine transport of chromium to the surface of steel powder particles for 1 to 10 hours at a temperature of 600 to 1200°C and pressure from 0.1 to 0.5 MPa with formation of a shell of chromium or chromium carbide on the surface of particles. Alternatively, after coating, heat treatment is carried out under a nitrogen atmosphere to form a chromium nitride shell on the surface of the particles.

EFFECT: production of core-shell powder with uniform cladding.
