SUBSTANCE: invention relates to rational use of natural resources and environmental protection. A method has been disclosed for determining the annual amount of carbon emission from soils in the forest-steppe zone by measuring the average values for the growing season of the velocity of soil CO2 flows, in which measurements of CO2 emission from the soil surface using the chamber method are carried out during May of the year under study, 2 measurements per each decade on days with clear weather in the period from 9.00 to 13.00 hours, the resulting rate is averaged for one day and extrapolated for 7 months from April to October inclusive, which allows to determine the annual carbon emission from soils of a given ecosystem, using the formula: Cemit. soil = VSE CO2× 0.273× 10× 214, where Cemit. soil is the amount of carbon emitted by the soil into the atmosphere per year, kg ha-1 ; VSE CO2 is the CO2 soil emission, obtained by measurements during May of the year under study, 2 measurements in each ten-day period on days with clear weather in the period from 9:00 to 13:00, g m-2 day-1 ; 0.273 is the conversion factor of the molar mass of CO2 into the molar mass of C, dimensionless coefficient; 10 is the conversion factor for the mass of emitted carbon per unit area of soil g m-2 to kg ha-1, dimensionless coefficient; 214 is the duration of the period accompanied by the process of soil respiration, days.
EFFECT: assessment of the annual amount of carbon emitted by the soils of a given ecosystem, using experimental data on measuring average values of soil CO2 flow rates during the growing season with minimal time spent on the process of obtaining such data.
