SUBSTANCE: invention relates to aerosol-generating apparatus and methods for controlling aerosol-generating apparatus. Aerosol-generating apparatus comprises a heating unit configured to heat the aerosol-forming material, an indicator unit, and a controller. The controller is configured to activate the heating unit in order to heat the aerosol-forming material and determine a feature of the heating unit. If the determined feature meets at least one criterion, the controller activates the indicator unit in order to indicate that the apparatus is ready to be used.
EFFECT: prompt notification of the user when the apparatus is ready to be used.
