FIELD: smoking accessories.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an aerosol-generating device, to an aerosol-generating system with such a device, as well as to a method of detecting the presence, absence or displacement of an aerosol-generating article in the cavity of the aerosol-generating device. Aerosol-generating device for heating an aerosol-forming substrate, which is capable of forming an inhaled aerosol when heated, comprises: a cavity for receiving at least a portion of the aerosol-generating article which contains the aerosol-forming substrate to be heated; an electrical heating appliance comprising an electronic circuit and a heating element operably connected to the electronic circuit for heating the aerosol-forming substrate when the aerosol-generating article is received in the cavity; and a controller comprising a temperature sensor configured to output a signal indicative of the temperature or temperature rise of at least one part of the electronic circuit during operation of the heating appliance. Controller is configured to detect the presence, absence or displacement of the article in the cavity in response to a signal indicating that the temperature or the temperature increase has crossed the predetermined threshold temperature or the predetermined temperature increase threshold, respectively.
EFFECT: improved detection of the presence, absence or displacement of the aerosol-generating article in the cavity of the aerosol-generating device.
