SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in production of magnesium-zirconium master alloys and alloys. The method for producing a magnesium-zirconium master alloy involves preparing a superheated magnesium melt, placing a layer of “ВИ2” flux on the surface of the melt, and supplying an alloying component in the form of a zirconium electrode wire in an argon environment into the liquid melt. Melting of the zirconium wire occurs in the “ВИ2” flux layer due to the heat generated when an electric current passes between the electrode wire and the magnesium melt through the flux layer.
EFFECT: improved quality of alloys due to higher accuracy of the chemical composition of the resulting alloy.
