SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to predict relapse of hepatitis D after completion of antiviral therapy. Hepatitis D virus RNA is determined in the patient's hepatobiopsy using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). If a positive PCR result for hepatitis D virus RNA is obtained in a hepatobiopsy and there is a negative PCR result for hepatitis D virus RNA in the blood serum, a relapse of hepatitis D is predicted within 4–24 weeks after the end of treatment.
EFFECT: method improves the accuracy of predicting relapse of hepatitis D after completion of antiviral therapy due to the early detection of hepatitis D virus RNA in hepatobiopsy material.
