SUBSTANCE: method of treating a patient with elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) or glaucoma. The patient is administered an angiopoietin-like protein 7 (ANGPTL7) inhibitor. The patient does not have a variant nucleic acid molecule encoding human ANGPTL7 Arg177stop, Trp188stop, Lys192Gln, Phe161Ile, Arg340His, Arg220His, Asn302Lys or Arg220Cys, or the patient is heterozygous for a variant nucleic acid molecule encoding ANGPTL7 Arg177stop, Trp188stop, Lys192Gln, Phe161Ile, Arg340His, Arg220His, Asn302Lys or Arg220Cys. Also the following is provided: a method of identifying a human subject at increased risk of developing an ophthalmic condition by determining the presence or absence of a variant ANGPTL7 loss-of-function nucleic acid molecule encoding human ANGPTL7 Arg177stop, Trp188stop, Lys192Gln, Phe161Ile, Arg340His, Arg220His, Asn302Lys or Arg220Cys.

EFFECT: inventions make it possible to identify patients at increased risk of developing ophthalmic pathological conditions that can be treated with an ANGPTL7 inhibitor.
