FIELD: electrocatalysis.
SUBSTANCE: method for preparing an electrode-catalyst for the electrochemical production of hydrogen based on transition element carbide modified with trace amounts of platinum. The method is characterized by the fact that molybdenum, or zirconium, or niobium carbides of composition MxC are used as the transition element carbide, where M is Mo, x=2, Zr or Nb, x=1, and the synthesis of the catalyst includes dispersing a carbide sample with 5-10% solution of perfluorosulfonic acid polymer in ethanol, applying the resulting mixture to the surface of a glassy carbon electrode, drying the electrode at room temperature for 24 hours and applying platinum by immersing the electrode in a 10-4-10-2 M solution of K2PtCl2 in 0.5 MH2SO4 for 20 minutes at a temperature of 50-90°C. The invention allows for the synthesis of composite Pt(Mo2C), Pt(ZrC) and Pt(NbC) catalysts for electrochemical hydrogen evolution in sulfuric acid solutions.
EFFECT: achieving low RVV overvoltages at a current density of 10 mA/cm2 as a criterion for electrocatalytic activity.
