FIELD: gas separation.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to gas separation by means of adsorption. A separation unit for separating at least one gaseous component from a gas mixture containing that component, in particular for direct air capture, including CO2 capture from air, wherein the separation unit comprises at least one adjacent and sealing element surrounding a wall enclosing circumferentially at least one cavity, said at least one adjacent and sealing element of the surrounding wall defines an upstream opening and an opposite downstream opening of at least one said cavity, said cavity containing at least one gas adsorption structure (4) for adsorption of said at least one gaseous component, preferably under conditions of pressure and/or ambient temperature, wherein the separation unit further comprises a pair of opposing sliding doors for sealing the upstream opening and the downstream opening, respectively, of the at least one cavity in closed state, and wherein each of the pair of opposing sliding doors for opening the closed cavity is configured to move in a direction substantially parallel to the plane of the corresponding sliding door to open the upstream opening and the downstream opening, respectively, and allow the passage of the gas mixture through a gas adsorption structure.
