FIELD: testing preservation agents.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for determining the rate of propagation of vapours of volatile corrosion inhibitors (VCI) in a preserved volume. A method for determining the rate of propagation of vapours of volatile corrosion inhibitors (VCI) in a preserved volume characterized in that first, into a small-sized hermetically sealed device for determining the rate of propagation of vapours of VCI in a preserved volume (PV), having the shape of a cube with transparent walls and a hermetically sealed transparent lid, at distances of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 cm in six directions from its centre, thirty VCI vapor indicators numbered from 1 to 30 used for organoleptic control by the organs of vision numbered from 1 to 30 are attached, then with a time interval of no more than 5 seconds, the test VCI is installed in the centre of the PV weighing 5 g, the lid of the device is closed and the stopwatch is turned on, then for each VCI vapor indicator the time when it changes colour is separately recorded, after which the speed of propagation of VCI vapor in a preserved or any other sealed volume is calculated using the formula: where ν is the speed of propagation of VCI vapor in a canned or any other sealed volume, cm⋅s-1; i is the number of the VCI vapor indicator; ai is the distance between the VCI and the i-th VCI vapor indicator, cm; ti is the colouring time of the i-th VCI vapor indicator, s; 30 is the number of VCI vapor indicators.

EFFECT: determining the rate of propagation of VCI vapor in a preserved or any other sealed volume.
