FIELD: measurement technology.

SUBSTANCE: method for calibrating nephelometers. The method includes scattering the light flux from the nephelometer emitter on a scattering plate, forming a light flux by passing the light flux through two opaque inserts with a hole with the diameter several times smaller than its length, scattering the radiation on the second scattering plate, and recording the scattering coefficient values by the nephelometer receiver in the absence of a light filter and when light filters with a known directional transmittance value are introduced between opaque inserts. Linearity of the nephelometer being verified is determined by deviation of the measured values of the scattering coefficient with installed light filters from the expected value.

EFFECT: reduced transmission steps from the state primary standard of the unit of measurement, reduced transmission error of the unit of measurement, and a measurement formula that does not depend on the type of nephelometer being verified.
