FIELD: agriculture.
SUBSTANCE: harvester for harvesting crops located on the working field, in particular, is made in the form of a fodder harvester, contains at least two caterpillar drives located on opposite ends of the front axle of the harvester. Each caterpillar propulsor comprises two main wheels arranged one after another in the direction of movement of the harvester, at least one auxiliary wheel located between the main wheels, and at least one running belt stretched around the main wheels. Auxiliary wheel can interact with the lower part of the running belt so that forces transmitted to the ground by means of the corresponding caterpillar propulsor can be diverted at least proportionally by means of the auxiliary wheel. At least one lifting device is located on each caterpillar propulsor, by means of which it is possible to transfer at least front (in direction of harvester movement) of two main wheels of the corresponding caterpillar propulsor from zero position to lifted position. Lifting device is connected to at least one auxiliary wheel. Harvester comprises at least one control device to automatically start said front main wheel depending on harvester turn angle. All lifting devices are made with possibility of interaction with common hydraulic system. At least one lifting device connected with at least one auxiliary wheel can be temporarily disconnected from common hydraulic system. Method of working field treatment with the help of harvesting machine provides for passing of working field area by means of harvesting machine at least in sections along working strips. Depending on the turning angle of the harvester, the front main wheel of at least one caterpillar propulsor of the harvester is lifted from the surface of the working field so that the area of the contact surface of the running belt of the caterpillar propulsor, which is in contact with the surface of the working field, is at least temporarily reduced. Lifting device is connected to at least one auxiliary wheel of at least one caterpillar propulsor. When lifting the front main wheel of the corresponding caterpillar propulsor, one of the lifting devices connected to at least one auxiliary wheel is inactive.
EFFECT: reduced shear forces transmitted to the ground when turning.
