FIELD: agriculture.
SUBSTANCE: forage harvester for crushing the harvested crops in the working field comprises at least one transporting apparatus for transporting the cut harvested crops in the direction of the crushing apparatus, at least one crushing apparatus for crushing the cut harvested crops, and at least one ejecting apparatus for ejecting the crushed harvested crops. The forage harvester also comprises at least two track-type propulsors located at opposite ends of the front axle of the forage harvester. Each of said track-type propulsor comprises two main wheels located in the longitudinal direction of the forage harvester one behind the other and opposite each other, at least one auxiliary wheel located between the main wheels, and at least one track belt covering the main wheels. The auxiliary wheel interacts with the lower section of the track belt so that the auxiliary wheel can be used to at least partially divert the forces subject to being diverted into the ground through the corresponding track-type propulsor. Two lifting mechanisms are provided on each of the track-type propulsors, by means whereof at least the front of the two main wheels of the corresponding track-type propulsor are configured to be moved from the zero position to the lifted position. The front main wheel is configured to transfer the forces of the forage harvester through the track belt to the working field at the zero position, and is lifted from the working field in the lifted position so that the contact area of the track belt in contact with the surface of the working field is reduced compared to the location of the main wheel in the zero position. The forage harvester also comprises at least one control apparatus, by means whereof the front wheel is configured to automatically start lifting depending on the angle of rotation of the guiding wheel of the forage harvester. The method for moving the forage harvester in the working field includes the following stages: a) the harvested crops in the working field are collected by means of the forage harvester; b) the collected harvested crops are crushed by means of the crushing apparatus and then discarded from the forage harvester by means of the ejector apparatus in the direction of a transporting container; c) the area of the working field is passed by means of the forage harvester at least partially along the working strip; d) depending on the angle of rotation of the guiding wheel of the forage harvester and/or in the process of movement of the forage harvester along a public road, the front main wheel of at least one track-type propulsor of the forage harvester is lifted off the surface of the working field so that the contact area of the track belt of the track-type propulsor in contact with the surface is at least temporarily reduced.
EFFECT: shear forces introduced into the ground due to a turning maneuver of the forage harvester are reduced.
