FIELD: medicine; ophthalmology.
SUBSTANCE: limbal insufficiency is treated by transplantation of cultured stem cells into intrastromal corneal tunnels, including preparation of a stem cell culture. Corneal intrastromal tunnels are prepared using a curved spatula or a femtosecond laser at a depth of limbal epithelial stem cells, along the limb, in one plane, in the upper and lower hemispheres, each with length of 100–175°. Formed tunnels are filled with a biomedical cell product containing a carrier medium and cultured stem cells dispersed therein.
EFFECT: method enables reducing manifestations of limbal insufficiency by restoring the corneal phenotype of the epithelial surface, epithelisation of erosions and regression of neovascularisation.
