FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for determining porosity of a combustible mass of coal. Method involves coal sampling. Also includes determination of output of volatile substances, sorption properties of coal, petrographic differences. At the point of coal sampling, concentration of gases and intensity of their release from the working face are measured by means of gas-air survey. Elementary composition of the combustible substance is determined using an X-ray fluorescence spectrometer. Coal sorption properties and its technical analysis are determined from indices of element composition of combustible substance contained in coal, yield of volatile substances and fraction of fusinite in coal. Volume of combustible mass of coal is determined by its combustion and measurement of unburnt residue. Porosity of the combustible mass contained in the coal is determined by measuring the amount of the substance absorbed by the coal, which increases fluidity in the investigated sample of the combustible mass, with interconnected pores or by analyzing polished sections of fusinite coal. In addition, content of combustible mass in coal, amount of methane, microcomponents of main petrographic differences are determined in the taken samples of coal.

EFFECT: high accuracy of determining porosity of combustible mass of coal and its properties.
