FIELD: data processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to compression of a point cloud, in particular to methods and a device for entropy encoding/decoding of point cloud geometry data captured by a rotating sensor head. Result is achieved by the fact that points of the point cloud are ordered on the basis of azimuthal angles, which are angles of capture of sensors, and indices of sensors associated with sensors. At that, encoding method includes encoding into a bit stream at least one difference of ordinal indices, which is a difference between ordinal indices of two consecutive ordered points, by: obtaining at least one binary data by binarization of at least one difference of ordinal indices and, for each binary data, selecting a context based on the distance between the azimuthal angle associated with the binary data and the azimuthal angle of the already encoded point and based on the context of entropy encoding the binary data into the bitstream based on the selected context.
EFFECT: high efficiency of compression.
