SUBSTANCE: invention relates to encoding and decoding point cloud geometric data. Result is achieved due to improved selection of contexts used for entropy coding of bits bd. Context selection is based on the apparent angle (AAd) corresponding to the interval along the azimuthal coding direction and representing the point cloud point coordinate. Visible angle (AAd) is an estimate of the angle of the interval when observing from a sensor which has registered the point at a specific depth.

EFFECT: improved efficiency of context-based entropy coding used in azimuth coding mode.
