SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of breaking ice cover. Invention proposes method of breaking the ice cover by an underwater vessel by exciting resonance flexural-gravity waves in the ice. Body with positive buoyancy is placed under the first wave crest behind the ship stern and towed at ship speed. In the process of towing, the body is given a poorly streamlined shape periodically with frequency of resonance flexural-gravity waves during time equal to half of their period.
EFFECT: higher efficiency of ice breaking.
