The technical result is achieved by receiving data describing an audio scene, the data being audio data for a plurality of audio elements and metadata, wherein the said plurality of audio elements corresponds to a plurality of audio sources of the said scene, and the metadata contains at least the first transform property indicator for audio playback that relates to the first audio element from the said plurality of audio elements; conversions for reproducing audio elements by generating the first plurality of audio signals for a plurality of speaker systems; conversions for reproducing audio elements by generating the second plurality of headphone audio signals; and selecting between converting to reproduce at least the first portion of the first audio element through said plurality of speakers and converting to reproduce at least the said first portion of the first audio element through headphones in response to the first conversion property indicator for audio reproduction, wherein the transform property indicator for audio reproduction specifies the audio format of the first audio element.
EFFECT: improving the quality of audio data reproduction.
