FIELD: fibre optic communications.

SUBSTANCE: technical result is achieved by the first network device receiving first label information, where the first label information is used to indicate a target optical output interface, and the target optical output interface is one of at least one optical output interface of the first network device; the first network device generates an optical signal, wherein the wavelength of the optical signal is within a wavelength range corresponding to the target optical output interface; the first network device modulates the first tag information into an optical signal to generate a modulated optical signal; and the first network device sends a modulated optical signal from the target optical output interface to the target optical input interface of the second network device to detect a fibre optic connection relationship between the target optical output interface and the target optical input interface.

EFFECT: effective reduction of the amount of information that needs to be processed by a network management device to detect the relationship of an optical fibre connection, and increase in the efficiency of detecting the relationship of an optical fibre connection.
