FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of converting at least one methyl halogen into ethylene and propylene. Method comprises the following steps: supplying a stream of starting materials (1) containing at least one halomethyl; optionally diluted with at least one diluent; providing a first catalyst composition and a second catalyst composition, said second catalyst composition comprising a cracking catalyst; contacting said stream of starting materials (1) with said first catalyst composition in first reaction zone (3) under first reaction conditions to obtain first stream of product (5); and subjecting at least a portion of said first product stream (5) to catalytic cracking of olefins with said second catalyst composition in second reaction zone (7) under second reaction conditions to obtain second product stream (9). Method is characterized by that said first reaction conditions include a reaction temperature below 400 °C, and wherein said first catalyst composition contains at least one molecular sieve with an atomic ratio Si/Al in range of 2 to 18, wherein said at least one molecular sieve comprises a plurality of pores having shape of 8-member ring or less, and besides, said at least one molecular sieve in the first catalyst composition is selected from groups families AEI, CHA, DDR, ERI, KFI and LEV and any mixture thereof.
EFFECT: use of the proposed invention provides high selectivity and high degree of conversion.
