SUBSTANCE: invention relates to agriculture, namely to horticulture. Method involves determining the concentration of indoleacetic acid in apple tissues. As apple-tree tissue, apical and axillary buds of seedlings of tested variety-rootstock combinations of apple trees, relating to a group defined by growth force, are used, in which after completion of active growth of plants of 1st year of life, concentration of indoleacetic acid is determined. To diagnose crown compactness, coefficient of compactness is used, which is calculated by ratio of concentrations of indoleacetic acid in apical and axillary buds of seedlings of tested variety-rootstock combinations of apple-tree. If the crown compactness factor is less than 2, then this corresponds to a weak crown compactness degree, the crown compactness factor in range of 2.0–3.0 — to a medium degree, and coefficient of compactness is more than 3 corresponds to high degree of compactness of crown, preferable for creation of compacted plantations of apple-tree.

EFFECT: method provides early diagnosis of crown compactness of apple-tree plants of various variety-rootstock combinations for creation of compacted apple-tree plantations.
