FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to use of oxidised lignins as a component in a binder composition, such as an aqueous binder composition for mineral fibers. Use of oxidised lignin obtained by a method of producing oxidised lignins involves contacting component (i) comprising one or more lignins, component (ii) comprising ammonia and/or a salt thereof, component (iii) comprising one or more oxidants in the form of hydrogen peroxide, organic or inorganic peroxides, molecular oxygen, ozone, halogen-containing oxidants or any mixture thereof, as a component in an aqueous composition of a binder for mineral fibers.
EFFECT: obtaining derivatized lignins using the disclosed method, which have the desired reactivity and at the same time are more fire-resistant when used in products in which they are included in the binder composition compared to non-derivatized lignins, and also have improved long-term stability.
