FIELD: binding materials.

SUBSTANCE: binder for mineral fibres, which are used in the manufacture of thermal or sound insulating products. The aqueous mineral fibre binder composition includes one or more oxidized lignins as a base component; one or more crosslinkers; and one or more plasticizers. Crosslinkers used can be based on β-hydroxyalkylamides and/or on oxazolines or multifunctional organic amines; or an epoxidized fatty acid triglyceride oil or one or more elastic oligomers or polymers containing reactive functional carbodiimide groups, anhydride groups, oxazoline groups, amino groups or epoxy groups. The plasticizer is selected from the group consisting of polyethylene glycols, polyethylene glycol ethers, polyethers, hydrogenated sugars, phthalates and/or di- or tricarboxylic acids, lactic acid, vanillic acid, ferullic acid, acrylic polymers, polyvinyl alcohol, polyurethane dispersions, ethylene carbonate, propylene carbonate, lactones, lactams, lactides, acrylic polymers with free carboxy groups and/or polyurethane dispersions with free carboxy groups.

EFFECT: reduction or elimination of the use of corrosive or hazardous components in the binder.
