FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and can be used for preheating and feeding metal charge into a melting furnace of a smelting plant. Device comprises at least one conveyor channel for charge, at least one cap located above said conveyor channel, and charge detection means configured to determine the charge profile supplied through the conveyor channel. Adjustment means connected with said cap to move the latter vertically to said surface of conveyor channel and from it to change cap height depending on certain profile of charge.

EFFECT: invention enables to uniformly heat the charge to a suitable temperature and thereby maximizes the efficiency of the melting furnace.
