FIELD: nanotechnologies and nanomaterials.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in optoelectronics when making transparent laser ceramics and phosphors. First, a solution is prepared containing salts of gadolinium and dopant rare-earth elements, with total concentration of 0.005÷0.05 mol/l. A solution of citric acid with concentration of 2 M and polyvinylpyrrolidone are then added. Volume of the citric acid solution is determined from ratio of 50 ml per 5 g of the synthesized nanocrystalline powder. Weight of polyvinylpyrrolidone is calculated from ratio of 10 g per 5 g of the synthesized nanocrystalline powder. Resulting mixture is stirred using a magnetic stirrer with heating and dried at a temperature of not more than 150 °C until a homogeneous gel is obtained, which is heat treated at a temperature of not less than 600 °C for 2 hours. Average particle size of powder is 8–18 nm.

EFFECT: obtained nanocrystalline powder of gadolinium oxide, doped with rare-earth elements, has high thermal and chemical resistance, morphological homogeneity and retains its properties for a long time.
