SUBSTANCE: invention relates to non-destructive testing methods and is intended for determining the residual service life of the most dangerous elements of loaded structures, pipelines, shells and heat exchangers of boilers, lining of furnaces and metallurgical equipment, refractory protection. Method of determining residual life of ceramic and metal materials involves photographing, using a microscope, a selected prepared portion of the analysed material, determining the grain size of the analysed material by micrographs, determining the average grain size by computer analysis of experimental data, determination of quantum number k1 by average grain size, determining the quantum number k2 in range of 0.75–0.85 depending on the maximum grain size established from the known reference data for the analysed material, determination of multiplier value τo by using as lower and upper limits of integration of quantum numbers k1 and k2, respectively, by which durability of τ analysed material under thermal and mechanical loads is determined.
EFFECT: high accuracy of determining residual life of ceramic and metallic materials.
