SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to video encoding and decoding. To provide the technical result, one or more prediction blocks are determined for inter-prediction of the current block. When refining the gradient-based prediction, one or more prediction unit samples are modified based on factors such as displacement in the horizontal direction, horizontal gradient, vertical displacement and vertical gradient. Horizontal and vertical displacements are rounded to accuracy level, which is the same for different modes of inter-prediction, including affine mode and bidirectional optical flow (BDOF) mode.

EFFECT: providing refinement of prediction based on gradient, where level of bias accuracy is unified for different prediction modes, which leads to a smaller common logic circuit and reduced power consumption due to the absence of the need for power supply of an unused logic circuit.
