FIELD: engineering geology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to engineering geology, namely to methods of detecting stretching and compression areas in a rock mass. Disclosed is a method of detecting stretching and compression areas in a rock mass, which involves measuring total volumetric activity of radon and thoron in soil air with a device for measuring alpha-active gases. After that, compression zones are determined by formula ACOMP = QTn/QRn222, and stretching zones ASTRET = QRn222/QTn, where QRn222 and QTn are the volumetric activity of radon and thoron in the collected soil air sample, respectively.
EFFECT: detection of stretching and compression zones in rock mass of the investigated section for determination of deformation zones without periodic measurements.
