FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: use for non-destructive ultrasonic testing. Essence of the invention consists in the fact that one end of an elongated strip with a width-to-thickness ratio greater than one is attached to a control object, and opposite end – to ultrasonic transducer, excitation of non-dispersive ultrasonic signals in elongated strip by means of transducer, wherein the signals propagate along the length of the elongated strip into the controlled object, receiving reflected signals from the controlled object, wherein at least one artificial reflector in the form of a through hole or notch is made in the elongated strip, which enables to determine the thickness of the controlled object or the distance to the defect from the time difference between the signal from the defect or from the inner surface of the controlled object and the signal from the artificial reflector and to evaluate the quality of the acoustic contact.
EFFECT: reduced error in measuring the propagation time of an ultrasonic signal in a controlled object, which enables more accurate determination of the thickness of the controlled object or the distance to the defect.
