FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of materials processing and surface modification with a laser beam, in particular, to production of articles from iron-carbon alloys with alloyed surface layer containing titanium borides. A reaction mixture containing titanium or ferrotitanium powder with titanium content of not less than 60 wt.% and boron or ferroboron with boron content of not less than 6 wt.%, with ratio of weight of titanium to weight of boron in range of 1 to 4. Said mixture is applied on treated surface and treated with laser. For additional formation of chromium-containing components in the alloyed layer chromium or ferrochrome powder is added to the reaction mixture in an amount of not less than 5 wt.% of total weight of titanium or ferrotitanium powder and boron or ferroboron powder. Also, the above mixture can be prepared with addition of an adhesive binder and applied on the treated surface in the form of paint or paste.
EFFECT: providing high hardness and wear resistance.
