FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to treatment of materials with a laser beam and surface modification during laser surfacing of alloying compositions and can be used to form an alloyed layer on the surface of articles made from titanium or alloys based on titanium. Method includes application of alloying powder composition in form of ferroboron with boron content of not less than 6 wt. % on surface of item made from titanium or alloys based on titanium and laser processing. To form additional intermetallic components, method involves introduction of aluminium additives to initial ferroboron, nickel, or alloys based on them, or their combination with subsequent laser surface treatment.

EFFECT: enabling the titanium or titanium-based alloy surface alloying process using laser radiation without using complex equipment and chemically active alloying media in the form of gaseous components.
