SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production and operation of ground transport-technological machines and systems. Invention is aimed at checking the internal combustion engine (ICE) cooling system tightness during assembly at a plant or in a car repair organization. Checking for tightness of the cooling system during ICE assembly is carried out before filling the coolant, engine oil, before installing the engine on the vehicle; engine is connected to a device for checking the tightness of the cooling system: all cooling liquid inlet and outlet channels are closed with a plug, except for one, to which a special cover with a hose is connected, through which compressed air is supplied to the set pressure, the verification process continues until the set time, which is displayed on the monitor, after completion of the test, compressed air is released through a special cover into the atmosphere, the special cover and plugs are disconnected. Pressure value and test duration are obtained from the reference engine. Cooling system tightness test method: on the engine all coolant inlet and outlet channels are closed with plugs (steam discharge tube, coolant discharge to cabin heater, coolant return from cabin heater, etc., depending on engine configuration), except for one. Remaining channel is closed with a special cover for supply of compressed air through the hose. At the first stage, the entire cavity and channels of the cooling system in the engine are filled on the device for checking tightness.

EFFECT: detecting defects of products and violations of technology during assembly at a plant or in a car repair organization before filling with coolant, engine oil and before installing the engine on the vehicle.
