FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to non-ferrous and ferrous metallurgy, particularly to production of rolled stock in the form of metal strips, alloys and steels, and improves heat treatment process in bell-type furnaces. Insulating layer for use in heat treatment of rolled metal from metals and alloys in bell-type furnaces consists of ceramic particles, wherein ceramic particles contain not less than 40 wt.% of ZrO2 or contain a mixture of ceramic particles containing at least 40 wt.% of ZrO2, and ceramic particles containing at least 25 wt.% of Al2O3. Method of installation of rolls of rolled metal from metals and alloys into bell-type furnace includes placement of end of roll installed in furnace on specified insulating layer.

EFFECT: reduction of metal losses in the form of scrap from the ends of the roll due to a significant reduction in the degree of deformation of the metal strip in the edge area and reduction of the depth of its occurrence, as well as absence of additional defects of coating formed due to disturbance of gas exchange processes in turn-to-turn gaps, and increased durability of insulating layer.
