FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to dentistry, and can be used to assess the risk of developing systemic osteoporosis in chronic generalized periodontitis. That is ensured by determining: the intensity of the inflammatory process of the periodontal tissues by the periodontal Russell index, gingival bleeding by the Mullemann-Cowell bleeding index, the inflammatory process in the area of each tooth in the gum by Svrakow's test, alveolar bone resorption index (MI) and mandibular cortical index (MC1) according to the patient’s orthopantomogram. Each of these indicators is assigned a number of points in accordance with the developed system of points. Patient’s sex, age, presence of menopause diagnosis in female patients, accompanying diseases, taken preparations, presence of femoral neck fractures in patients and their immediate family are taken into account. In the presence or absence of each of these risk factors, a certain number of points is assigned. Obtained points are summed up. If the total score is less than 5, the patient is referred to a risk group with a low risk of developing osteoporosis with a preventive examination of the oral cavity at least once every six months. If the total score is 5 to 20, the patients are referred to a group with an average risk of developing osteoporosis, and a complex treatment of periodontal diseases with examinations at least once every 6 months is recommended. If the total score is more than 20, the patient is referred to a group with a high risk of developing osteoporosis, and a complex treatment of periodontal diseases is recommended with examinations at least once every 3 months and a consultation with an endocrinologist.

EFFECT: invention enables to select a preventive treatment or routing to a specialist for the pathogenetic therapy of osteoporosis directly at the doctor's appointment according to the severity of the condition.
