FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to methods of producing and extracting furfural by using one or more adsorption units for enriching an organic solvent stream with furfural and for removing soluble organic residues from the organic solvent stream. Method of producing furfural from two-phase composition (2) containing furfural, an organic solvent and soluble organic residues involves exposing the two-phase composition to a liquid-liquid separation step (3) to obtain organic phase (5) and aqueous phase (4). Organic phase (5) contains an organic solvent, a first portion of furfural and a first portion of soluble organic residues. Aqueous phase (4) contains the remaining part of furfural and the remaining part of soluble organic residues. Organic phase (5) is subjected to fractionation step (7) to obtain furfural stream (8) and an organic solvent stream (9) containing an organic solvent and a first portion of soluble organic residues. Flow of organic solvent (9) is directed to adsorption unit (10) for adsorption of the second part of soluble organic residues with formation of recirculation flow (11) depleted of organic residues. Method of extracting furfural from two-phase composition (2) containing furfural, an organic solvent and soluble organic residues involves exposing the two-phase composition to a liquid-liquid separation step (3) to obtain organic phase (5) and aqueous phase (4). Organic phase (5) contains an organic solvent, a first portion of furfural and a first portion of soluble organic residues. Aqueous phase (4) contains the remaining part of furfural and the remaining part of soluble organic residues. Flow of organic phase (5) containing organic solvent, first part of furfural and first part of soluble organic residues, is directed to adsorption unit (10) for adsorption of second part of soluble organic residues with formation of flow (5') depleted of organic residues. Organic phase (5') depleted of organic residues is subjected to fractionation step (7) to obtain a furfural stream and an organic solvent stream containing an organic solvent.
EFFECT: group of inventions provides higher yield of furfural, minimization of losses of yield of furfural in two-phase reaction, reduced power consumption, lower consumption of material.
