SUBSTANCE: disclosed are systems, methods, and devices for storing and/or transporting an intraocular lens (IOL) cartridge. System comprises an IOL cartridge. IOL cartridge comprises a tip and a compartment containing the IOL. Tip is in fluid communication with the compartment. IOL cartridge further comprises a rotary element located adjacent to the compartment, wherein the inner surface of the rotary element is open to the compartment. Rotary element is made with possibility of IOL folding at rotation of rotary element. IOL cartridge further comprises a plunger cylinder in fluid communication with the compartment, wherein a plunger is displaced in the plunger cylinder. IOL cartridge is detachably attachable to the handle. System further comprises a package comprising a base, wherein the IOL cartridge is disposed within the base, a first detachable cover configured to cover a first portion of the IOL cartridge, and a second detachable cover configured to cover a second portion of the IOL cartridge, wherein the second detachable cover is locked in place by the rotary member when the rotary member is in the non-rotated position.
