FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of producing in vitro leather for use in a leather article. Fibroblast is brought into contact with a framework containing cellulose or its modified version. Above fibroblasts are incubated on the frame at temperature of 6 to 37.5 °C and incubation time from 2 to 6 weeks, wherein fibroblast secretes collagen. At least a portion of said collagen is tanned to form the skin in vitro. Thus, an artificial dermal layer containing fibroblast is formed.
