SUBSTANCE: inventions relate to detection of non-ferrous and ferrous metal objects concealed in dielectric or low-conductivity media. Essence: a set of devices for determining the location of a hand-held metal detector consists of a remote compatible device and a hand-held metal detector, the latter comprises primary transducer, power supply and electronic circuit arranged in portable housing. Electronic circuit has a bidirectional wireless communication unit which enables to set up, monitor and control the metal detector using a remote compatible device. Remote compatible device has the ability to evaluate the wireless communication quality of the remote compatible device with a hand-held metal detector, depending on the distance between them, and generate audio, light and tactile alarms in any combination for the user to determine the distance from the lost hand-held metal detector. Method is characterized by the fact that a user using a remote compatible device monitors one or more quality indicators of wireless communication with a hand-held metal detector, varying in proportion to the distance between the remote compatible device and the hand-held metal detector. Remote compatible device generates audio, light and tactile signaling in any combination, by which the user determines the distance from the lost hand-held metal detector.

EFFECT: high probability of locating a lost hand-held metal detector.
