FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to pharmaceutics, biological chemistry, and can be used to assess antioxidant activity of natural compounds. In the blood of animals which are administered the natural compound, spectrophotometric determination of the antioxidant activity of the natural compounds is carried out by erythrocyte peroxide resistance. Indicators of antioxidant activity of natural compounds are referred to that of trolox. Intensity of antioxidant activity is calculated by formula: where IAA is intensity of antioxidant activity; (ΔA/Ahaem)x is erythrocyte peroxide resistance in the presence of natural compound X; (ΔA/Ahaem)Tr is peroxide resistance of erythrocytes in the presence of trolox Tr; ΔA is a decrease in the optical density of the blood sample: ΔA=Ahaem – Aop; Ahaem is the optical density of the haemolysed blood sample, Aop is the optical density of the test sample; M (X) and M (Tr) are the molar masses of the natural compound X and trolox, respectively. If the IAA value is less than 1, the antioxidant activity of the compound, which is lowered relative to trolox, is determined. If the IAA value is more than 1, the antioxidant activity of the compound increased relative to trolox.

EFFECT: method enables to qualitatively assess the antioxidant activity of natural compounds by using the calculated value of the antioxidant activity index for calculating the intensity of antioxidant activity by action strength.
