METHOD FOR INDEX ASSESSMENT OF ORAL HYGIENE AND ITS DYNAMICS IN PERSONS UNDERGOING ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT WITH ALIGNERS Russian patent published in 2024 - IPC A61B5/00

SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for use in complex treatment of dentoalveolar anomalies. During the orthodontic treatment, the hygienic state of the teeth, periodontium and aligners is determined separately. Dental component is examined from the vestibular surface from the first permanent molar on one side to the first permanent molar on the opposite side of the dental arch with the help of a dye. Evaluation of the aligner hygiene quality is carried out in points depending on the plaque staining area in the aligner. Presence of inflammation in periodontal tissues is determined visually. After registration of all indicators, the total score is calculated, oral hygiene is assessed based on the obtained total score: 0–2 points—very good hygiene; 3–4 points—good hygiene; 5–9 points—satisfactory hygiene; 10–25 points—unsatisfactory hygiene. To assess the dynamics of the hygienic status of patients and determine the effectiveness of oral hygiene in the process of orthodontic treatment with the help of aligners, the effectiveness of the individual oral hygiene complex is calculated by formula (%): Efficiency (%) = 100 × (A−B):A, where A is the sum of points of the hygienic state of the oral cavity and the removable aligner before the hygienic measures; B—sum of points of hygienic state of oral cavity and aligners after hygienic measures in process of orthodontic treatment.

EFFECT: method, by assessing oral hygiene and its dynamics during orthodontic treatment with removable orthodontic trays (aligners), allows determining the oral hygiene state at each visit and assessing its dynamics in the process of permanent use of removable orthodontic aligners for eliminating dentoalveolar anomalies.
