SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely dentistry, and is intended for index assessment of oral hygiene level in individuals with fixed orthodontic structures. Six index teeth are dyed and evaluated by the following criteria: presence / absence of plaque on facial surface of 1.1 tooth and bracket on oral surface of 1.6 tooth and bracket in the presence of internal braces, on mesial-vestibular surfaces of 2.4 and 4.2 teeth and braces, on the distal-vestibular surface of tooth 3.5 and the bracket, on the distal-oral surface of 4.7 tooth and the bracket in the presence of internal braces. Estimation criteria of the index are calculated using the original design formula and value 0.00–0.17 is used to determine very good oral hygiene and the bracket system; 0.18–0.35 define good oral hygiene and braces system; 0.36–0.53 define satisfactory hygiene of mouth and bracket system; 0.54–0.71 define unsatisfactory hygiene of mouth and bracket system; 0.72–0.89 define bad hygiene of mouth and bracket system; 0.90–1.00 define very poor hygiene of mouth and bracket system.

EFFECT: method enables effective and fast assessment of oral hygiene in orthodontic patients with fixed orthodontic structures.
