METHOD FOR INDEX ASSESSMENT OF ORAL HYGIENE LEVEL IN INDIVIDUALS UNDERGOING ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT WITH THE BRACKET SYSTEMS Russian patent published in 2020 - IPC A61B5/00

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to therapeutic dentistry, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics and prevention of dental diseases, and is intended for use in assessment of quality of oral care in patients during treatment with fixed orthodontic appliances, namely – bracket system. Surface of teeth 1.6, 1.1, 2.4, 3.6, 3.1, 4.4 is stained. Dental surface where the bracket system is installed is stained. If the tooth is missing, the surface of the nearest adjacent tooth is stained on the same jaw. Dental surfaces are visually divided into four sections: a medial, distal, cervical and a segment around the bracket. Index of oral hygiene BHI (Braces Hygiene Index) in the presence of a bracket system is calculated by formula: BHI=(n/24)×100 %, where n is number of colored areas, 24 is total number of sections. Four levels of oral hygiene are distinguished: good if BHI ≤ 15 %, satisfactory if BHI value is from 16 to 40 %, unsatisfactory if BHI value is 41 to 70 %, and bad if BHI ≥ 71 %.

EFFECT: method, due to the fact that in the study, in addition to the molars and incisors, the premolars are examined, and the accuracy of assessing the oral hygiene state in patients with the bracket systems is improved.
