FIELD: powder metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to powder metallurgy and can be used for production of refractory materials, for example, molybdenum disilicide. Molybdenum powder with particle size of not more than 5 mcm and silicon powder with particle size of not more than 250 mcm, taken at an atomic ratio of 1:2, are mixed in a planetary mill for 3 hours at frequency of 100 rpm. Mixture is placed in a first graphite cup, which is a cathode, which is covered with a graphite cover and placed at the bottom of a second larger graphite cup, are fixed by uniformly arranged graphite spacers between the inner surface of the second cup and the outer surface of the first cup. Between the graphite cover of the first graphite cup and the solid graphite rod, which is the anode, a DC arc discharge is generated in the air medium by contact of the graphite rod with the graphite cover at current strength from 100 to 200 A, voltage 31–37 V. Anode is taken vertically upwards, forming a discharge gap of 0.3–0.8 mm, and arc discharge is maintained for 45–75 seconds. After the cathode cools down to room temperature, the finished powder is extracted.
EFFECT: enabling the process to be carried out in an air medium and reducing the time required for producing the powder.
