FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of compounds with carbon and can be used in hydrogen power engineering. Device for producing powder containing molybdenum carbide contains chamber 1 of dielectric material with cover 2 at the top, inside of which cylindrical graphite anode 9 and cathode 5 are placed horizontally and coaxially. Two metal holders 3, 4 are vertically fixed at chamber 1 bottom. In holder 3, on the side facing the center of chamber 1, a recess is made, into which the closed end part of the cylindrical hollow cathode 5 is horizontally inserted, the open part of which faces anode 9. Cathode cavity 5 is intended for placement of cylindrical compact 11 from powder of graphite and molybdenum till its round flat surface comes into contact with corresponding surface of cathode cavity 5. Holder 4 horizontally has through hole with thread, in which screw 6 is inserted, end of which is attached to the middle of bottom of metal shell 8, in which solid anode 9 is inserted. Anode 9 is fixed with the possibility of movement along the longitudinal axis by means of screw 6, one end of which is withdrawn from chamber 1 and equipped with handle 7. Diameter of cathode cavity 5 is larger than the diameter of anode 9 from 2 to 4 times, and the depth of the cavity of the cathode is not less than its diameter. Shell 8, into which anode 9 is inserted, and holder 3 of cathode 5 are connected to DC source 10 located outside chamber 1. Operation of the device does not require operations to form a protective gas discharge atmosphere, since the anode and the cathode are located in the chamber communicating with open air, and protective atmosphere of CO is generated spontaneously directly in process of arc discharge burning in cavity of graphite cathode. Productivity is not limited by rate of anode consumption, since compacting from mixture of graphite and molybdenum is put into cavity of cylindrical graphite cathode.
EFFECT: as a result, in DC arc discharge discharge, which is initiated in air atmosphere under normal conditions, powder containing molybdenum carbide of hexagonal and orthorhombic structure is obtained.
