FIELD: inorganic chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to inorganic chemistry, specifically to production of compounds with carbon, and can be used to produce silicon carbide powder. Device comprises a graphite cylindrical cathode in the form of a vertically arranged cup mounted on a dielectric support, graphite cylindrical anode located coaxially to the cathode so that the larger part of the anode is located inside the cathode cavity. Graphite cylindrical anode is made in the form of a hollow pipe and is located so that its end is adjacent to the bottom of the cathode. On the outside, the cathode surface is coated with a layer of graphite felt, which is covered on the outside with a layer of mullite-silica felt, and a round cover of graphite felt with a central hole for the anode is inserted into the cathode. Cathode and the anode are connected to a high-power direct current source, to the positive terminal of which the part of the anode protruding from the cathode is connected.
EFFECT: enabling creation of a device for producing silicon carbide powder by resistive heating.
